World Cancer Day

Thank you to everyone who banded together for young lives against cancer on World Cancer Day, 4 February 2018. Watch this space for our 2019 plans!

Young cancer patients wearing their World Cancer Day wristbands

On World Cancer Day, and in the lead up in 2018, CLIC Sargent highlighted the hidden costs of cancer and the importance of banding together. Our supporters banded together for young cancer patients by wearing Band Against Cancer wristbands on World Cancer Day. We have now sold out of 2018 wristbands but you can still donate to show your support.

Our Hidden Costs report revealed a cancer diagnosis often affects a young person’s mental health, not just their physical health. 79% of young people we surveyed felt cancer had a serious impact on their emotional well-being , while 70% of young people experienced depression during their cancer treatment.

Getting support from others was crucial. 87% of young people said the support they received from CLIC Sargent Social Workers, psychological services and online was vital in dealing with the emotional impact of cancer and 73% said talking to others with similar experiences helped them to cope.

Watch our film

Young cancer patients Daisy, Mo and Tyler share how they felt when the doctor said ‘it’s cancer’ – and talk about the support they received from CLIC Sargent.

Please donate today to help CLIC Sargent support more young cancer patients like Daisy, Mo and Tyler.

How CLIC Sargent helps

Our CLIC Sargent care teams support young cancer patients emotionally, building their resilience so they can continue to learn, regain their confidence and self-belief and be inspired to think beyond cancer.

Our services are independent and solely funded by CLIC Sargent. Find out more about what we do to support young cancer patients.

Support from Morrisons

Colleagues and customers at our corporate partner Morrisons held their biggest ever fundraising event on World Cancer Day 2018, raising £325,828 for children and young people facing cancer.

It saw hundreds of stores across the UK holding bucket collections, selling tens of thousands of World Cancer Day wristbands and holding head shaves, baked bean baths and leg waxes for the cause.

Thank you

Thanks to everyone who wore our bands, volunteered, fundraised and donated on World Cancer Day. You are all part of Team CLIC Sargent – without you we couldn’t continue our vital work for young cancer patients.
